Closing Gaps In Wound Care
At FWAE, we believe quality wound care knowledge and resources should be accessible to everyone—not a privilege for a few.
Our mission is to expand access to wound care through education, guidance, and resource support, connecting individuals, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with the information and tools needed to support safe and effective healing.
We provide referral guidance, personalized patient and caregiver education, and assistance accessing appropriate wound care supplies for use at home. We also equip healthcare professionals with evidence-based training and practical resources to strengthen wound care practices across all settings.
By closing gaps in access, education, and resources, we aim to reduce preventable complications, lower healthcare costs, and improve outcomes.
FWAE turns knowledge into healing
Why Our Mission Matters
Every year, chronic wounds affect nearly 7 million Americans and contribute to more than $25 billion in healthcare costs. Yet many individuals—especially older adults and those with limited access to care continue to face significant barriers, including:
- Cost: High costs often stand in the way of treatment.
- Access: Limited due to distance and transportation issues.
- Provider Shortages: Cause delays and even lack of care.
- Health Literacy & Information Gaps: Prevents effective wound care management and healing.
- Healthcare Inequities: Minority and underserved populations experience poorer outcomes.
We put our mission into practice every day by:
-
Empowering patients and caregivers with clear guidance, practical education, and tools to support safe and effective wound care at home.
-
Supporting healthcare professionals through comprehensive wound care education, training, and evidence-based resources that strengthen practice and promote better outcomes.
-
Championing equitable access to wound care knowledge and resources, ensuring individuals with limited access can obtain the guidance, supplies, and support they need.
-
Assisting with access to essential wound care supplies, helping reduce barriers and improve continuity of care.
-
Providing ongoing guidance and follow-up support, helping patients and caregivers navigate wound care with confidence and clarity.
Founded To Transform Wound Care
We are the Foundation for Wound Care Access & Education (FWAE), created from a simple truth: too many people still struggle to access reliable wound care knowledge, resources, and support. Whether due to limited resources, gaps in education, or challenges navigating the healthcare system, patients and caregivers are often left without the guidance they need to manage wound care safely at home.
FWAE was founded to change that. Our team of healthcare professionals, educators, and advocates is driven by compassion and a shared belief that healing should never feel out of reach. Through education, personalized guidance, access to essential supplies, and referral support, we help ensure that patients and caregivers have a clearer path forward.
We walk alongside patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals by providing knowledge, tools, and connections that make wound care easier to understand and less complicated to navigate. Together, we are working to make wound care support more accessible, more compassionate, and more sustainable for all.
Our Goal: Accessible, Effective Wound Care
At FWAE, our goal is simple yet powerful: to ensure everyone has access to quality wound care. We work to expand services in underserved communities, empower patients and caregivers with knowledge, and provide healthcare professionals with the training and tools they need. By removing barriers and improving resources, we strive to reduce hospitalizations, lower costs, and create better healing outcomes for all.
We Make a Difference By:
-
Expanding access to wound care education, guidance, and resources for homebound individuals and communities with limited access.
-
Educating patients and caregivers through clear, practical, and easy-to-use resources.
-
Supporting healthcare professionals with evidence-based tools, training, and continuing education.
-
Reducing barriers to accessing appropriate wound care supplies and support services.
-
Promoting better outcomes by helping prevent avoidable complications, hospitalizations, and unnecessary healthcare costs.
